Step-by-Step Guide for Family Visa Processing for Canada

• Determine Eligibility

  Sponsor Eligibility: Ensure the sponsor is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, at least 18 years old, and meets the financial requirements to support the family member.

  Applicant Eligibility: Verify that the family member being sponsored falls into an eligible category, such as a spouse, common-law partner, dependent child, parent, or grandparent.

• Gather Required Documents

  For the Sponsor: Proof of citizenship or permanent residency, financial statements, tax records, and a signed sponsorship agreement.

  For the Applicant: Identification documents, proof of relationship to the sponsor, medical exams, police certificates, and other supporting documents.

• Complete Application Forms

  Sponsor Forms: Complete the necessary sponsorship forms, including the application to sponsor, undertaking, and sponsorship agreement.

  Applicant Forms: Fill out the immigration forms, such as the application for permanent residence and any additional family information forms.

• Pay Application Fees

  Pay the required fees for processing the sponsorship and permanent residence applications. This may include the sponsorship fee, processing fee, and right of permanent residence fee.

• Submit the Application

  Assemble all forms and supporting documents into one package and submit it to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) either online or by mail.

  After arriving in Canada, the new permanent resident should apply for a Permanent Resident Card, which serves as official proof of their status in Canada.
